PLAN - MAP - TEST - PROTECT
Geologic, groundwater resource and recharge area mapping provide the science base for towns to identify future water supplies and protect existing resources. Maps published by the Geological Survey are used to highlight potential areas of higher and lower yield, to help define recharge areas as an aid for source protection, to locate shallow or buried aquifers in overburden, and to understand the source and transport of naturally-ocurring elements of concern (ie arsenic and others). Since 2000, Vermont towns have requested and supported mapping projects for groundwater planning and protection.
