If you're an electronics (1) manufacturer or (2) retailer in Vermont, you may need to register under the state's E-Cycles Program.
E-Cycles Manufacturers and Retailers
As defined in 10 V.S.A. Chapter 166, a manufacturer:
- Makes or has made a covered electronic device (CED) for sale in Vermont under your own brand or label;
- Sells CEDs under your own brand, even if another company makes them;
- Owns a brand that’s licensed to another company for use on CEDs sold in Vermont;
- Imports CEDs into the U.S. for sale in Vermont from a manufacturer outside the U.S.;
- Manufactures CEDs for sale in Vermont without a brand name; or
- Takes on the responsibilities of a manufacturer.
Registration Requirement:
Non-exempt manufacturers must register and pay registration and implementation fees to sell in Vermont. Manufacturers with opt-out plans are subject to opt-out specific requirements.
2. Retailers
Brand Registration Requirement
- Check the list of registered brands of computers, TVs, printers, and monitors approved for sale in Vermont. If a brand isn’t listed, it means the manufacturer hasn't registered, and those products can’t be sold in the state.
- Contact the E-Cycles Program if you have questions about a brand’s status or to report unregistered brands being sold in Vermont.
Retail Poster Requirement
If you sell computers, monitors, printers, or TVs, you must post a mandatory poster in your store (10 V.S.A. §7556(c)). You can print the poster yourself or request a color copy from us.
