The four Vermont Regional River Scientists are the primary contact people for the physical assessment, restoration and protection of rivers and their corridors.
The regional scientists provide the following services:
- technical assistance and QA to the Phase 1 and Phase 2 geomorphic assessments and the river corridor planning process;
- regulatory input for proposed development within the river corridor or the riparian buffer as regulated under the State Flood Hazard Area & River Corridor Rule and Act 250/Section 248 proceedings;
- oversee the development of the statewide river corridor and updates with field based data;
- technical assistance for river restoration and protection projects including river corridor easements; and,
- education and outreach on river corridor planning and mapping
