River Scientists

The four Vermont Regional River Scientists are the primary contact people for the physical assessment, restoration and protection of rivers and their corridors.

  The regional scientists provide the following services:

  • technical assistance and QA to the Phase 1 and Phase 2 geomorphic assessments and the river corridor planning process;
  • regulatory input for proposed development within the river corridor or the riparian buffer as regulated under the State Flood Hazard Area & River Corridor Rule and Act 250/Section 248 proceedings;
  • oversee the development of the statewide river corridor and updates with field based data;
  • technical assistance for river restoration and protection projects including river corridor easements; and,
  • education and outreach on river corridor planning and mapping
