The Environmental Assistance Office (EAO) helps Vermonters better understand and follow Vermont’s environmental laws, rules, regulations, and permits. We offer environmental assistance to Vermont individuals, communities, and municipalities with a special emphasis on supporting underserved and overburdened populations.
Our team is made up of a director, program manager, two accessible assistance specialists, two community assistance specialists, and an outreach assistance specialist.

The Outreach Assistance section currently has a Request for Proposals (RFP) open for Plain Language Training. The training will help Department staff learn about plain language and how to incorporate it into permit applications, issued permits, and other informational and educational materials. We invite interested parties to submit questions about the RFP by June 3, 2022 and proposals by June 17, 2022. To learn more, view the RFP.
The structure and makeup of the EAO has recently changed to better achieve its mission and provide assistance in a more relevant, efficient, and proactive manner. The EAO has created a new, easy-to-use online tool called the Permit Navigator. With the Permit Navigator, you can learn more about permits and determine which permits you might need.
