Water Supply Rule - For Public Water Systems that serve 25 or more people

The Drinking Water and Groundwater Protection Division is working on updating the Vermont Water Supply Rule. The focus on the rule is to incorporate federal regulations pertaining to PFAS with updates to technical treatment standards. It also incorporates updates to the Consumer Confidence Report Rule.

There will be a hybrid public meeting at 5pm on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 in the Catamount Room at National Life in Montpelier and Microsoft Teams and a virtual meeting on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at 11am via Microsoft Teams. More information will be available on the Secretary of State’s website.

Since the rule was filed, EPA released this memo, explaining how existing data may be used to apply toward the federal requirements. This memo came after the current draft approach was drafted. There are still other issues we are waiting on EPA to address before we can fully accept existing data. Once EPA addresses those topics it would allow us to utilize existing data. The program is interested in input from the regulated community about whether, once we receive clarity and authority from EPA to do so, it should utilize existing data to the best of our ability.
