History of Village Wastewater Solutions Initiative

  • Early 2000s, ACCD & DEC partnered to promote Village Wastewater Projects. 
    • Approximately 10 villages completed feasibility studies: Addison, Castleton, Clarendon, East Montpelier, Franklin, Georgia, Huntington, Westford, West Windsor, and Wolcott 
    • One project (West Windsor) has since gone to construction.
  • 2008 ACCD published Vermont Wastewater Solutions guidebook.
  • Fall 2012 ACCD held a meeting with DEC staff to brainstorm obstacles towards villages wastewater projects.
  • January 3, 2018 Governor's Strategic Plan includes Village Wastewater
  • February 20, 2018 Feedback Session to DEC from Village Stakeholders and Consultants
  • June 17, 2018 First BiWeekly Village Wastewater Initative Committee Meeting
  • July 21, 2018 Vermont Climate Action Plan (Recommendation 27: Action Step 3, develop funding model for unique rural wastewater challenges)
  • October 2018 DEC Awarded Northern Boarders Regional Commission (NBRC) Grant for $219,213 
  • January 2019 DEC Stragetic Plan Finalized & VWIC Legislative Report
  • Drinking Water Testing Completed for Jamaica Village
  • Drinking Water Testing Complete for Westminster West & West Dummerston Villages
  • 2019 Planning Advances Requested for Highgate & Londonderry
  • Drinking water testing Grafton village August 2019
  • Drinking water testing for Marlboro village and West Burke village September 2019
  • 2020 Wastewater Planning Advances requested by Montgomery and Greensboro
  • 2021 Wastewater Planning Advance requested by Huntington and Jamaica
  • 2021 Governor Scott proposed use of some ARPA funds for Village Water and Wastewater
  • 2021 Vermont Legislature appropriates use of $8M of ARPA funds for Village Water and Wastewater
