Engineering and Water Resources
The Engineering and Water Resources Program assists owners, operators, town officials, consultants and well drillers in areas pertaining to drinking water source(s) and engineering infrastructure of Public Drinking Water Systems.
Groundwater Reclassification
The Legislature, through the Groundwater Protection Rule and Strategy, has established groundwater in the state as a resource held in trust for the public.
There are four classes of groundwater:
PFAS in Drinking Water
Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) chemicals from household and commercial products may find their way into water, soil, and biosolids. As a result, PFAS have been found in people, fish, and wildlife all over the world.
The PFAS Road Map (Updated 2023) has helped state officials to identify sources and reduce the use, release, and public exposure of PFAS in Vermont.
