Lake Iroquois Association Garden Tour, Plant Sale, and Picnic

Host:  Lake Iroquois Association

Location:  Pine Shore Drive, Hinesburg VT, 05461

Event Description:  

3-5 PM “Garden Stroll down Pineshore Drive”.  Lauren Jenness, from the Vermont Dept. of Environmental Conservation, will lead a tour of several properties that are Vermont Lake-friendly.  LIA’s own Shannon Kelly will discuss the Ecosystem Restoration Project. Meet us to start the tour at 3 PM at the turn on Pine Shore Road. (See red dot on map inside.)

Look for “LIA Garden Tour” signs by road and by shore.  5-7 PM Picnic- 129 Wood Run - (See green dot on map inside.)

Look for “LIA Garden Tour” signs by road and by shore.  Picnic Food - Beer, wine, water, lemonade, hot dogs, hamburgers,veggie burgers, and cake. Feel free to bring sides and salads.  They are welcome but not necessary.  Rodney Putnam, singer and guitarist, will be our special entertainment at the picnic

Plant Sale - Preorder native plants to pick up at the picnic and save 10% or select plants at the picnic for purchase.  Chris Conant will donate 25% of the proceeds to the LIA. (Order form inside.)

Corrinna Panapay, District Manager, Winooski Natural Resources Conservation District, will discuss the shore erosion projects taking place on Lake Iroquois and grant opportunities or lake residents for projects on their shorelines.

Lake Champlain Live - Public Trip on Lake Champlain Aboard the R/V Melosira

Host:  Lake Champlain Sea Grant

Event Description:  Lake Champlain Live will provide participants with an opportunity to learn about and try their hands as limnologists (i.e., those who study inland waters). Following an interactive introduction to the geology and formation of the Lake Champlain Basin and the lake, participants will learn about biological, chemical and physical measurements limnologists make to improve our understanding of the lake, its watershed, and our impacts on them.

FNLC, UVM Ext, and FWA Summer Farm Meeting

Host:  Friends of Northern Lake Champlain, University of Vermont Extension, and Farmer's Watershed Alliance

Event Description:  The annual summer farm meeting and field day hosted by Tim Magnant at the Bridgeman View Farm in Franklin, VT.  FNLC, UVM Extension, FWA and AgriLab Tech are providing new information about improved agricultural field techniques to reduce non-point phosphorus run off into the state's water ways.  

FNLC and AgriLab Tech will present the Bouchard Farm Two-Tier Farm Stream/Ditch.

UVM Extension staff will present innovative agriculture techniques and equipment designed to fully infiltrate manure, do a field tour to demo Tim Magnant's successful crop rotation, counter slope plowed rows, minimal tillage, manure injection, grassed waterways, and riparian buffer management. 

Hick's Equipment Company, New Hampshire will demo a new manure injector designed to be used on hay meadows and pasture land.  State and Federal agency personnel will be on had to familiarize farms with current and new financial resources to help them with their water quality improvement projects and equipment purchases.

No Till Drill Workshop

Host:  Connecticut River Watershed Farmers Alliance and White River Natural Resources Conservation District

Location:  145B Birch Meadow Road, Fairlee VT, 05045

Event Description:  The CRWFA and White River NRCD will be holding a No Till Drill workshop. Both organization's drills will be there for demonstration. If you're interested in learning more about pasture renovation, cover cropping, and no till management, please join us. This workshop is mandatory if you plan on renting either piece of equipment in the next couple of years.
