Fees, Applications and Permits

Various certifications and permits required by either state or federal rules and regulations. Permits for various wastewater and drinking water programs are linked below along with certifications and licenses for individuals.

Sanitary Surveys at TNC Water Systems

The Environmental Protection Agency defines a sanitary survey as “an onsite review of the water source, facilities, equipment, operation, and maintenance of a Public Water System for the purpose of evaluating the adequacy of such source, facilities, equipment, operation and maintenance for producing and distributing safe drinking water.” (40 CFR) The purpose of a sanitary survey is to ensure that the water system is operating in a manner that provides safe drinking water from the source to the tap.

Public Water System Operator Training

The State of Vermont Drinking Water and Groundwater Protection Division approves training courses for Water System Operator Certification.   The table below summarizes the required renewal credits/training contact hours (TCHs) by Operator class.  Operator Certifications need to be renewed every 3 years.

Public Water System Operator Exams

For Operator Classification 2, 3, 4 & D: 

The Vermont water operator exam is administered simultaneously at two locations, twice a year, in the spring and fall. Registration is required.

Fall Exam Information:

Exam Date: November 3, 2023 (Friday)

Registration Deadline:  October 6, 2023 (Friday)

Fee: Class 3, 4 and D - $42

          Class 2 – NO FEE
