Certified Laboratories for Landowner Water Quality Testing

This page helps private well owners find Vermont Department of Health Certified Laboratories for water testing.

On this page you will find

  • A map of certified labs that test for primary, secondary, and other water contaminates.
  • A table with lab names, phone numbers, and the primary and secondary contaminants they test for.
  • A table listing labs and additional common contaminants they test for.

Please note: 

  • There are two labs in the state of Vermont that do all the primary and secondary contaminate testing. 
  • There are labs outside of Vermont that can perform new well testing for Vermonters.

How to use the map:

  • By default, the map shows labs certified for most primary and secondary contaminants and is labeled as Private New Well Testing.

  • You can scroll in and out on the map by using the mouse wheel. 

  • You can click and drag on the map to move the view around. 

  • If you get lost on the map you can click the button that looks like a house between the + and - sign on the map and it will return you to the original map view. 

  • If you are looking for a test that is not a primary or secondary contaminate then follow the steps below

    • Click the double arrow at the top of the map

    • Uncheck Private New Well Testing

    • Select the specific test you need by clicking on the box next to it so a check mark appears next to the one you want. Please keep only one checkmark active at a time.

  • Labs highlighted in green perform all well tests required under the Wastewater and Potable Water Supply Rules.
  • The "New Well Testing" column includes labs that don’t test for odor.
  • If your permit requires an odor test, ensure it's done by a lab certified for it.
