The Clean Water Initiative Program coordinates with State of Vermont and federal agencies to fund, track, and report priority projects to restore Vermont’s rivers, streams, lakes, ponds, and wetlands. State of Vermont clean water funds target projects that reduce nutrient and sediment pollution across various land use sectors. These projects - applied across the landscape - result in nutrient and sediment pollution reductions necessary for surface waters to meet State of Vermont water quality standards.
CWIP tracks and accounts for clean water projects installed across state and federal funding programs and regulatory programs in Vermont. Tracking and accounting together enable CWIP to estimate the mass of pollutants reduced from projects and monitor progress towards achieving water quality goals, such as Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs). The results of clean water projects are displayed in the Clean Water Project Explorer. To ensure projects are built, properly maintained, and functioning, CWIP has developed a protocol for Clean Water Project Verification. For more information, click icons below.
